Louisiana May be Featured in New Michelin Guide American South

With Michelin investigators already in the field seeking out the best of the best cuisine throughout the American South, restaurants across New Orleans and Louisiana will be considered for this prestigious recognition.

Known across the globe for world-class cuisine and unique culinary practices, Louisiana is being given the opportunity to stand in the culinary spotlight.

While Michelin Guides typically concentrate on cities, this new regional approach will allow the true gems of Southern cuisine to be recognized and celebrated all the same. Restaurants in six states across the South, including Louisiana, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, North Carolina and South Carolina, will be considered for this famous recognition and excitedly prepare on the chance that a Michelin investigator will anonymously walk through their doors.

While there are no guarantees that restaurants from New Orleans or Louisiana will be featured in Michelin's new guide, the globally-acclaimed unique culinary scene across the state excites restaurateurs at the thought of partnering with one of the worlds largest travel brands. Not only does this opportunity offer international recognition to the hardworking chefs, businessmen and culinary trail blazers across the state, but a chance to further boast New Orleans as a destination for food lovers across the world.

While a Michelin Guide was launched in French earlier this year to attract international visitors to New Orleans, the recently announced regional guide introduces the vibrant culinary traditions of Louisiana to a global stage and acts in line with greater efforts to amplify New Orleans culinary scene.

More about the Michelin Guide

The Michelin Guide was first published at the turn of the 20th century in France to encourage tire sales for the Michelin tires company. Each restaurant is inspected multiple times throughout the year to ensure that the guide remains a reliable resource for travelers. The methodology for the guide hasn't changed since it started, with the inspectors judging restaurants on the basis of five universal criteria:

1. Quality products.

2. The harmony of flavors.

3. The mastery of cooking techniques.

4. The voice and personality of the chef as reflected in the cuisine.

5. Consistency between each visit and throughout the menu.

The first North American guide was announced for New York in 2005. Since then, the Michelin Guide has featured various large cities across North America including San Francisco, Chicago, Quebec, and many more, yet New Orleans has yet to be featured until the French guide released earlier this year.
