The Re:SET concert series came at a welcome time for our city. It's a funny thing to say, "New Orleans needs more music" but with the discontinuation of Voodoo Music + Arts Experience in 2019 and the hiatus of BUKU Music + Art Project this year, we've been looking for a new festival to fill the particular energy of that live rock and electronic music void.
Day one of Re:SET swooped into town yesterday with a promise to do just that. Big Freedia brought her massive dance energy and ruled over the audience like the monarch she is. IDLES absolutely killed us with kindness and furious rock energy with heavy punk overtones. Lost Bayou Ramblers greeted us with their stalwart musicianship. Tristan Dufrene got us dancing. Jamie xx mellowed everyone out. We watched the sun go down from picnic blankets on the Festival Grounds lawn. Then LCD Soundsystem exploded into the night with huge electronic energy and intimate, deeply human lyrics. You've got two more nights to catch the portable festival here in New Orleans and half a dozen other cities to choose from. What a promising start!
