NOLA to Run Wild with Bull Run Festival

By: Sam Lucio

The Crescent City's annual bull run will take place with a fun-filled weekend on July 12-14. The 13th annual San Fermin in Nueva Orleans festival will host numerous parties and live music performances.

The festival begins on Friday, July 12 with El Txupinazo. This official kickoff party will be held at The Sugar Mill and attendees will be able to enjoy food, cocktails, an auction and more.

On Saturday, July 13, the main event, El Encierro: the Running of the Bulls, will take place. Doors will open at The Sugar Mill at 6:30am with the run beginning at 8am. Runners will then be chased by the Big Easy Rollergirls wielding plastic bats around the Warehouse District.

The festival will continue on Saturday at 11:30am after the run for La Fiesta de Pantalones at The Rusty Nail. Guests will be treated with drink specials and the continuation of the morning's party. Guests are encouraged to attend the party dressed Pamplonese style with a white shirt, white pants/shorts/skirt/dress and something red around the neck and waist.

On Sunday, July 14, the festival will conclude with El Pobre de Mi from 10am until 2pm at Lula Restaurant Distillery. The El Pobre de Mi is meant to celebrate the hardships runners went through during the run. El Pobre de Mi, which translates to poor me, is a traditional song sung after the bull run in Pamplona and will be sung at the San Fermin in Nueva Orleans. The party will also feature a burlesque performance from Roxie Le Rouge and an Ernest Hemingway theme show with a Papa Hemingway Look-aLike contest.

All events at the Running of the Bulls Festival are free to watch, however, participation in the actual run will require purchase of a ticket.
