NOLA's Home and Heritage Program
The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation has unveiled an innovative program to preserve both New Orleans' homes and cultural heritage.
In partnership with the Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans, the new Homes and Heritage program will provide essential home repairs for local culture bearers, ensuring they can continue enriching our community while maintaining their family homes. Funded by a generous $100,000 donation from the Merrilee Kullman family, this initiative targets explicitly low-to-moderate income homeowners who serve as vital cultural ambassadors in New Orleans.

Program Highlights
- Free home repairs for qualifying culture bearers
- Services include exterior maintenance, weatherproofing, and roof repairs
- Administered by Preservation Resource Center
- Focused on preserving cultural legacy through home preservation
Qualification Requirements
To be eligible for the program, applicants must:
- Be single-property owners with clean titles (no liens or fines)
- Have household income at or below 80% AMI (HUD guidelines)
- Qualify as culture bearers (musicians or cultural practitioners)
- Actively contribute to New Orleans' cultural traditions

Preserving Homes, Protecting Heritage
As CEO Blake-Anthony Johnson explains in a New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation press release, "Our Homes and Heritage Program is a testament to our commitment to preserving the physical spaces that sustain New Orleans' cultural legacy." The initiative represents a crucial step in ensuring that the city's beloved cultural traditions can continue to flourish in the homes where they were born, thereby building a stronger foundation for New Orleans' cultural future, one home at a time.
