Eric Gales is a phenomenal guitarist, who hails from Memphis. He got his start playing in bands with his brothers and originally signed a major label deal in 1990 before his debut album, The Eric Gales Band, came out in 1991. Tonight, though, he played the blues, in which he's known for, at Tipitina's, playing, mostly, the blues.

Most people associate Gales with Jimi Hendrix, which is not an unfair comparison. Both musicians are African American, play left-handed, and are singer/songwriters. Gales, like Albert King and unlike Hendrix, though, plays with the guitar with the strings upside down.

At Tipitina's, Gales rocks the crowd with his unique guitar stylings.

He's played in bands with his older brothers, other famous famous musicians, such as Dug Pinnick from King's X and Joe Bonamassa, and others.

The show at Tipitina's, however, focused on his recent solo material and eschewed his material that brought him into the limelight originally. The band is tight and obviously well rehearsed, as they function as a united unit to propel Gales' sound and virtuosity.

Gales and his band took over Tipitina's with fervor and aplomb to the delight of those in attendance.
