Christopher Landon at Overlook Film Fest
The Overlook Film Festival, a celebration of
horror and suspense filmmaking, opened in style on Thursday, April 3 at the
Prytania Uptown with director Christopher Landon presenting his new
Hitchcockian thriller Drop.
Drop is a lot of fun (a review
will appear on this site soon) and it opens nationwide on April 11. While Drop
is set in Chicago, Landon has filmed three movies in New Orleans: Happy
Death Day, Happy Death Day 2U, and We Have a Ghost. He referred to
the Crescent City as one of his favorite places in the world.
Landon told the packed theater the
story of getting an Uber ride after arriving in town for the festival. The
driver was eager to tell Landon he worked on Happy Death Day 2U as an
extra. "People are so chatty here, I love that," Landon said.
In a world of reboots, remakes, and
movies based on video games, Landon urged the audience to support movies that
tell an original story (that sentiment is shared by Where Y'at's movie
reviewers). "Original films need all the help they can get," Landon said.
