If you are hoping to be more sustainable in your everyday life, now is the time. Earth Day is almost here, arriving tomorrow, April 22, and the best way to celebrate is to jump in the fight to building a more sustainable planet. So, how can you help? Entergy offers some useful tips.

Save energy anywhere you can. Remember to turn off the lights when you're not in the room or the TV when you're not using it. You can also turn up the thermostat for when you're out of the house. Swap out your old lightbulbs for high-efficiency LEDs.

Reuse what you can; recycle what you can. One of the best ways to be sustainable is to find new ways to reuse old items. Perhaps an old shirt can be a new kitchen rag, or use that plastic bag as a wastebasket liner. You would be surprised at what you can do. Also, split up your waste into cans, bottles, and plastic, and be sure to recycle them.

Purchase locally sourced and/or organic food. It is easy to be sustainable with organic foods, all created utilizing sustainable practices. So, when shopping, look for organic options. And buying your food locally can work to lessen transportation-related carbon emissions, so perhaps visit your local farmer's market.

Don't waste water. We are lucky to have access to water, but we must remember: It is not an unlimited resource. You can also use less water by shortening your showers and only doing dishes or laundry when the loads are full to the brim. You can also put in low-flow showerheads and faucet aerators.

By being a little bit more conscientious and following these tips, you can do your part for the Earth, creating a healthier, more sustainable planet for years to come. Happy Earth Day!
