In a subculture dominated by cities in the West and Midwest, New Orleans remains in the ranks of top-rated destinations for beer lovers around the country.

Cincinnati, with 30 breweries and an average of over 103 beers per brewery, secured the No. 1 position among U.S. cities. However, New Orleans has more breweries and brewpubs per 100,000 residents (11, compared to 9.9 in Cincinnati) and completely surpasses this top competitor when it comes to the sheer number of bars per resident (45.3 in NOLA, compared to 24.2). The only top-ten city offering a cheaper pint than New Orleans is Missoula, Montana.

These findings were part of SmartAsset's fifth study on the best cities in the U.S. to buy another round of brew. Rankings considered data on 350 of the largest cities from sources that include ratebeer.com and the U.S. Census Bureau.
