Girls Trip and Bayou Maharajah Headline New Orleans Film Society’s Summer Film Series

The New Orleans Film Society unveiled its lineup for its annual Summer Film Series at the historic Orpheum Theater.

This year, the series opens on June 27th with a double feature of the 27-minute documentary Chasing Dreams: A Leah Chase Story and Ella Brennan: Commanding the Table. On July 10th, the series will present Bayou Maharajah, a feature-length documentary about New Orleans piano legend James Booker. On July 25th, viewers can enjoy the hit 2017 comedy Girls Trip, set in New Orleans during the Essence Festival and starring Jada Pinkett Smith and Tiffany Haddish. The final film of the series will be Jim Jarmusch's Down by Law on August 8th. Shot in New Orleans, the cult classic traces the misadventures of three fugitives plays by Tom Waits, Roberto Benigni, and John Lurie.
