How do you keep an interactive, energetic entertainer like Big Sam of Big Sam's Funky Nation from getting into the crowd as he performs to them? While we must stay socially distanced from each other, Big Sam has found a way to reach into his frenzied fans with his trusty trombone once a week.
Big Sam's Funky Nation has been tapped to perform on most Thursdays around the rooftop pool of the Royal Sonesta Hotel at the heart of the French Quarter. Tables for guests are spaced at an appropriate distance, and there is table service for your drinks and snacks (oysters chargrilled on site!). Big Sam and his band perform at one end of the pool and guests are seated all around it. People couldn't help but shimmy at their seats for some of Big Sam's biggest hits like "Funky Donkey." Don't be surprised by the people who exit their rooms and dance on the balcony!
