When the Roosevelt Hotel asked former guests to bring back items they'd previously taken to be apart of a special showing and for the opportunity to win a week-long stay in the presidential suite, they never expected to receive a silver candelabra from the 50s.

Typically guests take a bar of soap or a shower cap, but in 1955 the queen of the Krewe of Venus had her eyes on something with a little more shimmer. According to her granddaughter Elizabeth Cigali Manhel, Margaret Houlihan Cigali was attending a masked ballet in the hotel's Blue Room with her husband and son when she saw the candelabra she had to have. She hid it in the cape she was wearing and went on her way.

Elizabeth lovingly offered the candelabra, because she knew her grandmother wouldn't mind. Also, they promised to give it back.

The Roosevelt Hotel is currently celebrating its 125th anniversary. Read more here.
