Under new ownership, Tales of the Cocktail has moved from The Monteleone Hotel to the Royal Sonesta on Bourbon Street. The hotel was hopping with people for the first day. I had my first drink at the Mai Tai Mafia tasting room which resembled a pizza shop in Little Italy with wise-talking guidos making drinks and serving meatballs. It complemented the Italian Aperitif room where dozens of imported apertifs like limoncello were being served.
Many of us then went to the nearby Arnaud's French 75 Bar to see three bartenders creating their own signature drinks for the Headliner series before going to the Q Mixers Bourbon Block party complete with a live brass band.
