Guy Gilchrist, author and comic strip illustrator, will be visiting Big Easy Comics in Covington, from January 27 to 29. Famously known as Jim Henson's cartoonist, Gilchrist is also known for creating the Muppets comic strip in 1981. In 1984, his Muppet artwork was placed in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C as a National Treasure. After a few years of publishing the Muppets, Gilchrist took control of Nancy, a long-running comic strip that was first introduced in 1938. After publishing the comic for over 23 years, Gilchrist retired in 2018 to pursue other artistic interests. He has also done illustrations for Muppet Babies, Looney Tunes, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Pink Panther, Tom & Jerry, and Minnie Mouse.

Gilchrist is an award-winning author who has written and illustrated over 42 different books. He was awarded two Reuben Awards from the National Cartoonist Society in 1998 and 1999 for Best Book Illustrator. In one of his most recent works, Gilchrist illustrated Monster Dance, a picture book that helps spread awareness of COVID-19 to young children. The book explains safety precautions that kids can follow in order to live a happy and healthy life during the pandemic.

Gilchrist will be available for a meet-and-greet, photographs, and autographs. In addition, he will have some of his original artwork and prints available for purchase. On January 27, Guy Gilchrist will be giving a sneak peek to fans and media, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. On January 28 and 29, Gilchrist will be hosting a meet-and-greet, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets are free to the public, but COVID-19 restrictions will be enforced, and all guests are required to wear a mask.
