Missed Mardi Gras? Then Check Out Tardy Gras!

By: Kellie Arevalo

If you ask someone what their favorite holiday is, chances are they will say Christmas, Thanksgiving, or Independence Day. But in New Orleans, the answer will always be Mardi Gras. No holiday or event comes close to the crowded streets, flashy floats, and music. Unfortunately, with COVID restrictions and cancelled parades, it was hard to celebrate a regular Mardi Gras holiday in 2021. That's why Bar Marilou will be hosting its own "Tardy Gras" on Sunday, April 18.

Bar Marilou, located on 544 Carondelet St., is hoping to carry on the New Orleans Mardi Gras tradition by getting the community to come together for a day of fun events, good food, and even better music. Guests are encouraged to wear fun Mardi Gras costumes, with beads, of course. Attendees will have the opportunity to attend live performances by drag queen Louisiana Purchase, fire breather Emma Vauxdevil, and burlesque artists Cherry Bombshell, Chere Noble, and Juno. In addition, guests will be able to enjoy a Deux Fois Deux menu, which includes two signature cocktails and two small plates of bites. If you need additional food or drinks, a regular a la carte menu will be available as well.

Bar Marilou is requiring guests wear a mask in order to enter. To ensure everyone has a chance to celebrate Tardy Gras, there will be three different show times on April 18: 3 p.m., 5:30 p.m., and 8:30 p.m. The 3:00 p.m. show is labeled Brunch Fun and is available for $45 per person, with tables available that can sit between two to eight people. The 5:30 p.m. show, titled Afternoon Delight, and the 8:30 p.m. Dinner and a Show are each available for $85 per person. Food and drinks will be served at each performance, so choose the time that works best for you and get a group of friends together to celebrate Tardy Gras.
